All golfers with a USGA index of 18 or less are welcome to compete
FOUNTAIN HILLS & FT. MCDOWELL, Arizona – The Medalist golf event will be held at Eagle Mountain Golf Club, SunRidge Canyon Golf Club and We-Ko-Pa Golf Club, September 14, 15 and 16. In its third year, this 54-hole stroke-play event features a 180-player full field with golfers competing in one of three flights based on handicaps (60 players each in the Gold, Silver and Copper flights).
"The Medalist is one of those events that really has become larger than anticipated," said Phil Green, President of OB Sports , management group for Eagle Mountain and We-Ko-Pa. "The high quality of golf courses along with competition and camaraderie has made it an event that a lot of golfers mark on their calendars. We truly appreciate the support from the participants, our partners and sponsors."
It is $250 per player to enter the event which includes green fees, golf carts, practice balls, banquet after final round and a prize fund. The deadline for entry is September 10. All golfers must present an official USGA Index of 18 or less. Awards range from Overall Gross Champion and Senior "net" Champion to other net competitions within each flight.
"I think there is a natural curiosity among golfers to figure out where they stand against other golfers with similar abilities," said Joel Schafer, Director of Golf for SunRidge Canyon Golf Club. "The Medalist is the perfect place to do exactly that. The three fl! ights even the field and it’s played over three days so participants must ‘show up’ all three days."
Eagle Mountain Golf Club is located approximately 7.5 miles east of Loop 101 on Shea Boulevard and Eagle Mountain Parkway in Fountain Hills, Ariz. The Scott Miller-designed, 18-hole golf course (par 71 and 6800 yards from the back tees) incorporates the property’s natural box canyons, elevation changes and native Sonoran desert into the design of the golf course. Since opening to the public in 1996, Eagle Mountain Golf Club has earned numerous awards and accolades including "Best New Public Golf Course" by the Arizona Republic in 1996 and "Best of Phoenix Public Golf Courses" in 2006 by the Phoenix New Times. SunRidge Canyon’s 6,823-yard, par-71 layout begins at the upper mouth of the canyon and descends switch-back style to its floor. Along the way, the golf course follows the rugged natural terrain of stoney ridges, rock outcroppings and secluded hollows. All the way down, players are treated to spectacular views of majestic Four Peaks mountain to the east and the Mazatzal mountain range to the north. Because the fairways are not parallel, nor are they crowded with homes, players enjoy a true sense of oneness with the golf course.
We-Ko-Pa Golf Club is one of the most highly-acclaimed 36-hole facilities in Arizona. Accolades for the six-year-old Cholla Course include: Top Ten Best New Courses in the World, Sports Illustrated; 2002 Development of the Year, Golf Inc. Magazine; Best New Public Course, The Arizona Republic; Top 40 Daily Fee Golf Course in US, 2006 GOLF Magazine; one of the "50 Most Popular Golf Courses in the US" by the 2007-08 ZAGAT Survey.
