Orlando, Fla., (Sept. 5, 2007) – Turnstile Publishing Company, publisher of Golfweek and other magazines and Web sites that reach active and affluent audiences by focusing on their passions, announced today it has named William P. Kupper Jr. president, effective September 5.
"We are thrilled that we’ve lured Bill out of retirement," said Rance Crain, Chairman of Turnstile. "His many years of experience at Time Inc. and McGraw-Hill, coupled with his love of golf, are the ideal combination of talents to help Turnstile reach a new level of growth and maturity."
"The opportunity to help navigate Turnstile Publishing with our talented staff and various media properties targeted at the active and affluent demographicâ?¦was too hard to turn down," said Mr. Kupper. "Further growth through acquisition and partnerships in combination with existing brands creates the potential for us to become one of the nation’s leading specialized publishing companies. Our current foundation of video and digital extensions more than guarantees a healthy future for this entrepreneurial franchise. Global opportunities are also about to emerge, which is quite exciting."
This announcement comes just two months after Mr. Kupper was named to the company’s board of directors. Mr. Kupper will retain his position on the board, but will now oversee all of Turnstile’s assets, acquisitions and day-to-day operations. He will report to Mr. Crain.
"My first step is to assess the markets we serve, look for adjacent opportunities to acquire and further the collaborative work ethic amongst our diverse team so that we maximize all our resources," explained Mr. Kupper. "Going forward, I would expect everyone to help ‘make a difference,’ have fun along the way and embrace change daily as we serve our various markets and their customers."
Mr. Kupper most recently retired as president and CEO of The BusinessWeek Group. He joined McGraw-Hill Publishing Co., publisher of BusinessWeek, in 1995 as U.S. sales director and was appointed publisher of the magazine in 1999 and president in 2000. As president of BusinessWeek, Mr. Kupper was responsible for overseeing worldwide operations for the magazine’s North American and international editions and for leading the expansion of the franchise including BusinessWeek Online and BusinessWeek Television.
Before joining McGraw Hill, Mr. Kupper spent 24 years at Time Inc., where he held a number of senior sales management positions, including advertising sales manager for Sports Illustrated, advertising director for Life and international advertising director for Time. He also was publisher of Health magazine, part of Time Inc.’s Venture Group. Prior to Time Inc., he was a sales representative for GOLF Magazine.
Mr. Kupper started his career as a media planner at Dancer Fitzgerald Sample in 1969 after serving in the U.S. Army for two years. He spent ten months in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and Air Medal with the First Cavalry.
