COLORADO SPRINGS—Take a sporting goods salesman/athletics coach and a former school teacher and what do you get? The perfect team to take over the Total Golf Adventures territory in Colorado Springs says Joshua Jacobs, founder and president, of this fast-growing at-school, after-school golf enrichment program.
"Todd and Amy Schaefer are a perfect team to manage a territory for us," says Jacobs. "Between the two of them, they know youth, the community, the schools in the area and have a great small business background. It couldn’t be a better fit."
Todd has more than 12 years experience in selling sporting goods to schools and institutions through his family run business, SAI Team Sports. In addition, he has been a junior varsity coach for Lyons High School and freshman baseball coach at Niwot High School. He was also a recreation coordinator at the Carbon Valley Recreation Center in Frederick.
Amy worked as a speech language pathologist in the Greeley school system before giving birth to their son, Sutton 14 months ago. She has a master’s degree in education, and also ran a temporary staffing office for over one year before returning to school.
Between the two of them, the Schaefers feel they can build a very successful business. Todd has the experience in coaching, while Amy has the knowledge of the local school systems. Todd, who aspires to become a PGA teaching professional, will work with his staff in setting up programs while Amy will initially be the "business administrator" and will work toward teaching some classes herself.
"There are two or three parts to any business," adds Jacobs. "Sales, administration, and execution, that is what we love about having this husband/wife team managing our Colorado Springs territory. It is a recipe for success."
With the addition of Colorado Springs, Total Golf Adventures has 38 programs, in 23 states.
The TGA curriculum was developed with input from PGA Professionals and PhD’s in Child Development and Education. Their input has ensured that TGA teaches golf in a manner that is easy for children to learn and retain while reinforcing educational concepts. In addition to instruction, students learn to: keep score, count strokes (addition/subtraction); judge distances to the golf hole; (visual perception); and, study golf rules and etiquette (reading rule books by the USGA and National Golf Foundation).
Total Golf Adventures, the rapidly growing junior golf organization that has put close to 30,000 K-8th grade students through its at-school, after-school programs in four years, just added Staples to a growing list of partners/sponsors. Participating with TGA are: Nicklaus Golf Equipment, the official provider of junior golf clubs; Garb, Inc., the official provider of apparel for participants and staff; Divix Golf, designer and manufacturer of a patented divot tool, Mini Hat Clip, and Groover; and Almost Golf Ball’s P3 Ball, providing a safe, practice ball for TGA programs, and IZZO which is providing golf teaching aids and practice tools to help make the game fun for students to learn.
