Every Visiting Golfer Donated to Support Wounded Warriors, Fallen Heroes Foundation
(DELAND, Fla.) – Victoria Hills Golf Club – the award-winning Ron Garl design at the heart of Victoria Park, a St. Joe community in DeLand — raised more than $1,000 to benefit Wounded Warriors, Inc., and the Fallen Heroes Foundation during the inaugural "Patriot Golf Day."
Golfers playing Victoria Hills on Saturday, September 1, had the opportunity to donate $1 to support the families of those who have become disabled or lost their lives in the line of military duty. While every visiting golfer contributed, many chose to give more than the suggested $1 donation. The course also collected $20 each from golfers participating in a closest-to-the-pin contest on hole No. 2 (won by local golfer Howard Fisher). In all, Victoria Hills collected $1,018, exceeding its goal of $1,000.
Patriot Golf Day was a nationwide effort supported by both the PGA of America and the United States Golf Association (USGA).
"We were thrilled that every single golfer who visited Victoria Hills on September 1 chose to donate to the cause," says Matt Payne, Victoria Hills Head Professional. "We’re extremely proud to make this contribution to help America’s military members and their families, who have sacrificed so much."
Victoria Hills Golf Club was named one of Florida’s "Hidden Gems" by Travel + Leisure Golf Magazine, and has quickly become one of the most sought-after rounds of golf in Central Florida. Tucked away in the historic college town of DeLand, the course is conveniently located between Orlando and Daytona Beach. The stunning layout boasts more than 50-feet of elevation change, taking advantage of the area’s natural rolling hills, foliage and wetlands. Tall pines and majestic oaks frame the course while sandy waste areas and pristine lakes make for inspiring sight lines.

About Patriot Golf Day
Patriot Golf Day was created by Dan Rooney, a member of the Oklahoma Air National Guard, PGA of America (professional) and a USGA. Rooney has served two tours flying F-16s over Iraq and being familiar with the devastating losses some families have suffered due to their loved ones´ service to their country, he was determined to find a way to help them through the power of golf. Rooney’s idea for giving back to these families is Patriot Golf Day. On Sept. 1, 2007, PGA Professionals at all types of golf facilities will ask for a $1 donation on top of every green fee received, or in the case of private facilities, for a donation from every club member who tees off that day.
