NEW YORK, NEW YORK—September 2007 – Bobby Jones and Hickey Freeman have been chosen by the PGA TOUR to outfit both the United States and International teams for The Presidents Cup. The Presidents Cup is a team-matched competition held every two years, featuring 24 of the world’s greatest golfers. The two teams are comprised of twelve members each. One team consists of players from the United States; the other consists of international players from countries around the world, excluding Europe. The Presidents Cup was developed to give the world’s leading non-European players a chance to compete in an international team match competition.
Each day of the tournament, Hickey Freeman and Bobby Jones will dress both the American and the International teams for the opening ceremonies, their daily outfits, and closing ceremonies. The teams, captained by Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player include Tiger Woods, Jim Furyk, Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Adam Scott, Vijay Singh and many other world class golfers. Both teams will be dressed in custom tailored clothing and dress furnishings from Hickey Freeman as well as knit shirts and sweaters from Bobby Jones. Each team’s apparel reflects their respective flag colors. The U.S. team will wear red, white and navy. The International team’s apparel colors are royal blue, camel and black.
Committee members and honored guests including former President George H.W. Bush will be sporting custom-made cashmere sport coats, wool trousers, silk neckwear, and dress shirts. Custom suits for the teams have also been chosen for the dinner with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper. In addition, the rules officials will each have unique Hickey Freeman outfits for the opening ceremony. Spouses will have their own Bobby Jones women’s looks for the opening and closing ceremonies, and for Thursday-Sunday competition. Volunteers working the event will also be in Bobby Jones knit shirts.
Replica team knits will be available for sale in the merchandise shop at The Royal Montreal Country Club in Canada. During the week of September 25th 2007, Bobby Jones will work in collaboration with The Presidents Cup tournament to bring you this year’s competition apparel.
