POWAY, Calif. — Three-time LPGA tournament winner Paula Creamer and Aldila Advisory Staff member lived up to her billing as the top points earner for the 2007 U.S. Solheim Cup Team as she helped power the U.S. to a come from behind win over the 12 best European-born players to retain the Solheim Cup in Halmstad, Sweden. Creamer’s 2 and 1 singles win on Sunday helped seal the Cup victory for the U.S.
"Representing your country you begin to shine when you have to," said Creamer. "Coming out here, playing for my country, there’s no better feeling than that. I think it’s every athlete’s dream to wear their colors and try to do as much as they can to support their country. I definitely try to do it with pride."
The U.S. team led after the first day of play but fell behind 8 ½ to 7 ½ points. Creamer and the U.S. rallied in the cool wind and rain to win on the final day 16 to 12 and retain the Cup on foreign soil for the second time in event history.
Creamer, who uses Aldila’s Pink NVS in her driver and 3-Wood has played 10 Solheim Cup matches and won five of them and halved four of them. She captured 3 ½ points in her Cup debut and repeated that feat this weekend in her second Cup appearance.
"I love pressure," she said. "I love to play for my country. I think it’s so exciting to be on a team â?¦ having everybody out there, supporting each other. It’s really good camaraderie, representing your own country. It’s better than winning a tournament individually. Anytime you can play for your country and win, there’s no better feeling than that."
The Solheim Cup is the most prestigious team event in women’s professional golf. The biennial, trans-Atlantic event pits the United States against Europe for three days of grueling match play competition.
