Professionals at Coca-Cola Tokai Classic Preferred Graphite Design Shafts by More Than 2 to 1 Over Closest Competitor
(SAN DIEGO, California) – Graphite Design — maker of some of the most widely played graphite driver, fairway wood and hybrid shaft models on the PGA TOUR — dominated the Japan Tour’s Coca-Cola Tokai Classic in winning the graphite wood shaft brand count for the 151st consecutive event, according to the Darrell Survey.
A total of 151 Graphite Design shafts were played by professionals at the Coca-Cola Tokai Classic – more than double the number of the nearest competitor. Graphite Design was the most-played brand of driver and hybrid shafts while its Tour AD Quattro Tech claimed the driver model shaft count for the 14th time in 17 tournaments this year. Four top-five finishers were among those using Graphite Design shafts.
Graphite Design recently celebrated its 150th consecutive brand count victory on the Japan Tour, a remarkable streak which began in 2002. During that stretch, more than half the tournament champions (79) have reached the winner’s circle playing Graphite Design. The Japan Tour is regarded as one of the most competitive professional tours in the world and has produced numerous international stars.
"Our success in Japan continues to be a great source of pride for everyone at Graphite Design," said Tim Gillis, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Graphite Design. "Accuracy and distance are the keys to successful scoring at every event and every level of golf, and Japan Tour competitors prove each week that Graphite Design models deliver these elements like no other shafts."
In 2006, Graphite Design shafts were played by 41 winners of professional tournaments worldwide. Players using Graphite Design shafts amassed more than $90 million in PGA TOUR earnings in 2006 while the company earned more graphite wood-shaft model count victories on the PGA TOUR (16) than any other manufacturer. On the Japan Tour, Graphite Design shafts were in the bags of 18 winners in 2006 while the company extended its win streak in the wood shaft brand count to 134 consecutive tournaments.
Graphite Design is the graphite shaftmaker of choice for Hank Haney, coach to the world’s top-ranked player. This year the company introduced the Tour AD Quattro Tech ultra-premium shaft in the U.S. and launched its G-TECH combination-flex custom clubmaker series of wood and iron shafts, designed for exceptional playability throughout the bag.
