MANALAPAN,NJ—It is getting close to the end of the golf season as Winter approaches, but not for Brian Bevins who will be launching Total Golf Adventures programs in Monmouth County schools with the only at-school, after-school golf enrichment program in the country.
Bevins, currently on staff at Battleground Country Club and a PGA apprentice, acquired the territory and will combine his golf teaching skills with his youth instruction talents as a former school teacher to help introduce golf to as many youngsters in grades K-8 with this unique curriculum.
Total Golf Adventures, The Premier Junior Golf ProgramSM and rapidly growing junior golf organization, has put close to 30,000 grade students through its at-school, after-school programs in four years. With the addition of the Monmouth County territory Total Golf Adventures has 42 programs, in 23 states. TGA also has a program operating in Northern New Jersey, Bergen County. Monmouth County also represents the seventh territory opened by TGA in the last two months.
"We have territory managers from a wide variety of backgrounds. But it is rare to have someone join us who is not only a teaching professional, but also has taught in the school system. That is certainly a combination that will help enhance our program that much more in Monmouth. Brian is also in the PGA apprentice program which will further his credibility in his territory," says Joshua Jacobs, president and founder of the California-based company.
"As a former teacher and current parent, the idea of teaching golf to youngsters was what interested me the most with TGA," says Bevins. "TGA has a unique five-level program that integrates not only basic golf elements youngsters need to learn, but the moral and educational values they need to possess all through their lives." Before starting his golf career, Brian taught social studies in Middlesex County, NJ after getting his Masters Degree in Education at Rutgers.
The TGA curriculum was developed with input from PGA Professionals and PhD’s in Child Development and Education. Their input has ensured that TGA teaches golf in a manner that is easy for children to learn and retain while reinforcing educational concepts. In addition to instruction, students learn to: keep score, count strokes (addition/subtraction); judge distances to the golf hole; (visual perception); and, study golf rules and etiquette (reading rule books by the USGA and National Golf Foundation).
TGA has built a strong corporate base of supporters which are supplying a variety of services and products. Just added to a growing list of partners/sponsors is Staples which provides the territory managers with an easy way to produce printed materials. Participating with TGA are: Nicklaus Golf Equipment, the official provider of junior golf clubs; Garb, Inc., the official provider of apparel for participants and staff; Divix Golf, designer and manufacturer of a patented divot tool, Mini Hat Clip, and Groover; and Almost Golf Ball’s P3 Ball, providing a safe, practice ball for TGA programs, and IZZO which is providing golf teaching aids and practice tools to help make the game fun for students to learn.
