ORLANDO, Fla., (Oct. 3, 2007) – TurfNet, the leading news magazine for golf course superintendents, has awarded its annual 2007 Golden Wrench Award to the Technician of the Year Jim Stuart of Stone Mountain Golf Club in Georgia.
Nominated by course superintendent Anthony Williams, CGCS, Stuart was described as "Mr. Fix it," a man with a penchant for completing tasks quickly, properly, on time and under budget – all with a smile on his face. These qualities contributed to him becoming known around Stone Mountain as "His Jimness."
Besides a testimonial luncheon in his honor, Stuart also received two $1,000 checks, one from each of the co-sponsors Foley United and JRM Inc., two leading suppliers to the golf course industry.
Six technicians from around the country were selected as finalists from 49 nominees for the 2007 Golden Wrench Award. The nominees were narrowed down to the finalists by TurfNet, the Magazine’s editorial staff based on the following criteria: crisis management; effective budgeting; environmental awareness; interpersonal communications; cost control, including inventory management; overall condition and dependability of rolling stock; shop safety; work ethic; and helping educate and advance the careers of colleagues and co-workers.
The other 2007 Technician of the Year finalists were:
â?¢ Arnold Abey of Spokane Country Club in Spokane, Wash.
â?¢ Dan Herberg of Crow Valley Golf Club in Davenport, Iowa
â?¢ Arnold Pell of Chattanooga Golf and Country Club in Chattanooga, Tenn
