LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The world’s largest, independent organization of golf equipment professionals, PCS recently facilitated an educational summit in Atlanta, Ga., which brought together representatives throughout the golf industry to discuss the current and future conditions of all professions in golf.
"We are always looking for new and creative ways to enhance our members’ knowledge, not only for the equipment profession, but as part of the golf industry as a whole," said Don Radcliff, President of PCS Board of Directors. "The only way to develop further in this or any field is to continue your education and improve your ability to be flexible and more proficient in your work. The PCS is proud to be able to provide experiences like this."
The summit was designed to be an open forum for all attendees to ask questions and give input on their topic of choice. Two four-hour discussion sessions were held that raised issues from the lack of development in the golf industry to projects of different magnitudes that could be initiated to bring growth back to the industry.
Radcliff acted as moderator to help spark and guide these discussion sessions. While most attendants agreed that the golf industry is slowing in growth, many opinions and ideas were expressed on how to rejuvenate this timeless game — from seeking out players from groups that are not highly represented in golf, like minorities and young adults, to creating an easier and less expensive golfing experience for newcomers of the game.
Participants in the 2007 Summit included representatives from the PGA, LPGA, Mitchell Golf, Mizuno, the GolfWorks, Eidolon Golf, True Temper, UST, Stulz Golf Technologies, Ping and PGA Tour Superstore. Considering the success of the 2007 Summit, plans are already being made for a 2008 Summit.
