Wins His Third Champions Tour Major while Moving into First Place in the Charles Schwab Cup Standings
CARLSBAD, Calif. (October 8, 2007) – TaylorMade Tour Staff professional Loren Roberts strung together four straight front-nine birdies yesterday, which propelled him to a final-round 67 and an easy six-stroke victory at the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship – a win he proclaimed as the "sweetest" of his career. Roberts has now won three major championships on the Champions Tour since joining the circuit in 2005. He began Sunday’s round with a three-shot lead over fellow TaylorMade Tour Staffer Fred Funk, but Roberts’ deadly combination of solid ball-striking and pure putting proved too much for Funk and the rest of the field.
The win moved Roberts into first place in the Charles Schwab Cup standings with 2,620 points, 161 ahead of the No. 2 player. Last year Roberts finished second in the Charles Schwab Cup by just 20 points.
