Purple Ice and Tour AD Quattro Tech Models Fuel Winning Performances
(SAN DIEGO, California) – Graphite Design — maker of some of the most widely played graphite driver, fairway wood and hybrid shaft models on the PGA TOUR — helped the winner of the Champions Tour’s Administaff Small Business Classic throughout his record performance while the Japan Open champion also played Graphite Design shafts, according to the Darrell Survey.
In claiming his first Champions Tour title, the winner used Graphite Design’s Purple Ice shaft model to cruise to an eight-shot victory. His 25-under-par total and score of 191 matched Champions Tour 54-hole records. The winner was keyed by excellent driving, averaging 301.2 yards from the tee while finding nearly 74 percent of fairways at Augusta Pines Golf Club in Spring, Texas. He is the second consecutive Champions Tour winner to play Graphite Design shafts, after the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship earned a six-shot victory swinging the company’s YS-8.1.
On the Japan Tour, the Japan Open winner used Graphite Design’s Tour AD Quattro Tech model in his driver and 7-wood. In fact, all five top-5 finishers relied on Graphite Design. The company easily claimed the graphite wood shaft brand count for the 152ndconsecutive tournament, a streak that dates to 2002. In all, 151 Graphite Design shafts were played at the Japan Open, 35.2 percent of the total in drivers, hybrids and fairway woods and 68 more than the nearest competitor.
"Professionals playing Graphite Design shafts routinely reach the top of the leaderboard, and this week was no exception," said Tim Gillis, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Graphite Design. "Regardless of age, skill or swing profile, Graphite Design builds a shaft that can help any golfer achieve the distance and accuracy needed to excel."
In 2006, Graphite Design shafts were played by 41 winners of professional tournaments worldwide. Players using Graphite Design shafts amassed more than $90 million in PGA TOUR earnings in 2006 while the company earned more graphite wood-shaft model count victories on the PGA TOUR (16) than any other manufacturer. On the Japan Tour, Graphite Design shafts were in the bags of 18 winners in 2006 while the company extended its win streak in the wood shaft brand count to 134 consecutive tournaments.
Graphite Design is the graphite shaftmaker of choice for Hank Haney, coach to the world’s top-ranked player. This year the company introduced the Tour AD Quattro Tech ultra-premium shaft in the U.S. and launched its G-TECH combination-flex custom clubmaker series of wood and iron shafts, designed for exceptional playability throughout the bag.
