HT Senior Championship Moves to Hilton Head Island

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Harris Teeter Senior Amateur Golf Tour will host its ninth tour championship Nov. 13-14 at Port Royal Plantation.

This is the first time the championship, which includes golfers from 14 Harris Teeter Senior Amateur Tours across the East Coast, will be contested on Hilton Head Island. The eight previous tour championships were held in the Pinehurst region of North Carolina.

"We’re excited to move the championship to a new market," said tour president Dennis McCormac. "We’ve worked with Port Royal before and it’s a natural fit for our tour finals. Plus, they have a brand new clubhouse which will be used extensively during the tournament."

A field of about 200 competitors is expected to tee it up on the Robber’s Row and Planter’s Row courses at Port Royal during this 36-hole stroke-play championship. Tour members are encouraged to arrive early for practice rounds on Nov. 11 and 12, and to experience the island’s many offerings.

"Hilton Head is a vacation destination with plenty of things to do for golfers and their families," McCormac said.

Participants will come from 14 markets: Asheville, Charleston, Charlotte, Columbia, Hickory, Hilton Head, Indiana-Western Kentucky, Myrtle Beach, Northeast Georgia, Northern Virginia, Orlando, Pinehurst, Raleigh and the Triad.

This year’s prize pool will consist of $10,000 in gift certificates. Each of the four flights will distribute $2,500 in certificates to the top 10 finishers, with first-place winners receiving $500 gift certificates and crystal trophies.

Lunch will be served after Tuesday’s first round in the new clubhouse and will be sponsored by Perks and Pats Golf Vacations and Ron Burhans Realty.
