Mother Nature No Match for CHAMP Spikes
Marlborough, MA-October 23, 2007- The winner of the LPGA’s 2007 Hana Bank, KOLON Championship in South Korea counted on CHAMP’s Scorpion Stingerâ?¢ en route to her 36 hole victory as play was suspended after the start of the final round due to strong winds and cold temperatures. Play halted shortly after teeing off Sunday as the monsoon like conditions stripped the greens of grass making traction a top priority.
It was the champion’s fourth win of the season, good enough for second best on the LPGA Tour this year. The Norwegian became the first foreign-born player to win this event as all five previous winners were from the tournament’s home country of Korea.
On the European Tour, at the inaugural Portugal Masters at Oceanic Victoria Golf Club, the conditions were the complete opposite. Playing under picture perfect skies, the winner shot an amazing 25 under 265. This was the champion’s second career Tour victory, his first in over two years as he trusted his traction needs to CHAMP’s Pro Stingerâ?¢, the industry’s only hybrid golf spike. The Pro Stinger, a half-plastic/half-metal hybrid, gives professional golfers the security of a metal spike with the comfort and course-friendly qualities of non-metal spikes.
Statistically CHAMP ruled both the leaderboard and the field for the weekend in Portugal. Eight of the top ten finishers chose CHAMP spikes as well as an astounding 70% of the field’s 126 players. Further illustrating CHAMP’s spike domination, nearly 80% of the players who wore plastic spikes chose the CHAMP Scorpion Stinger.
"As always, it is extremely gratifying to dominate the tours from week to week," said Harris MacNeill, President of CHAMP. "To have our spikes worn by so many players in such diverse conditions is a fantastic compliment. The players know what works. It is a true testament to the features and benefits of our spikes."
