St Andrews, Scotland. 24 October 2007: The host venues for the 2009 and 2010 Boys Home International matches have been announced by The R&A.
Hankley Common Golf Club near Farnham, Surrey, in the South East of England, is to stage the 2009 event and Southerness Golf Club in Dumfries, South West Scotland, will host the matches in 2010.
Sunningdale had previously been announced as the 2009 venue but the award of The Senior Open to the Berkshire course, in the same year, necessitated the switch of venue for the Boys Home International matches.
Held over three days in August, the annual matches are a round robin format of foursomes and singles.
Teams representing England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales have competed for the R&A Trophy since 1985 although an England versus Scotland match can be traced back to 1923.
In 23 contests England is significantly ahead with 16 victories. Scotland has 4 and Ireland 2, while Wales’ sole success came when they tied the matches with Scotland in 1992.
2009 will be the tenth time the matches have been staged in England. Surprisingly, given England’s dominance of the competition, they have won only five of the nine matches played on home soil.
2010 will see the Boys Home Internationals return to Scotland for the seventh time. Scotland has won three of the previous six matches played north of the border.
