NEW SMYRNA, Fla., Nov. 1, 2007 – KemperSports today announced David Buth as general manager of the highly anticipated Venetian Bay Country Club near Daytona Beach, Fla. Over the final months of 2007 Buth will supervise pre-opening club operations and will oversee facility operations upon the championship golf course’s debut, scheduled for early 2008. In addition to the golf course, Buth and a growing KemperSports staff will be responsible for operations of Venetian Bay’s forthcoming clubhouse, beach and swim club, and tennis complex.
Buth, a Class A member of the PGA, has held management positions at several premium daily-fee golf courses as well as private clubs in Florida. Prior to joining KemperSports, he served as general manager at Victoria Hills Golf Club, an award-winning layout in DeLand, Fla., that was named to GOLF Magazine’s list of the top 10 new public-access courses opened in 2002. Before that, Buth directed golf operations at Suntree Country Club, a 36-hole private facility in the Greater Orlando area that formerly hosted the Space Coast Classic, a Champions Tour event held annually from 1980 to 1990. Buth was also a member of the golf operations staff at Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge, an internationally acclaimed Orlando-based resort that features 27 holes of championship golf and plays host to the PGA TOUR’s Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Buth, an active member of the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA), is a graduate of Stetson University.
"David has a proven record of success with several fine golf clubs, and we are confident in his ability to provide a first-rate membership experience," said KemperSports President and COO Steve Skinner. "Over the next few months, David will ready our KemperSports team to open and establish Venetian Bay as a leading private club in theFlorida market."
Venetian Bay Country Club will serve as a cornerstone of the 1,800-home, Mediterranean-themed Venetian Bay master-planned community being developed by The Johnson Group, one of Central Florida’s leading custom home developers and builders. Designed by Lloyd Clifton, the founding member of Florida-based Clifton, Ezell & Clifton Golf Design Group, the par-72 golf course features mature woodlands, hollows and strategically placed sand traps and water features. A full-service clubhouse, inspired by the same Tuscan motif of the surrounding residential community, will complement the Venetian Bay golf experience.
Upon completion, the Venetian Bay community will comprise a dynamic variety of homes, townhomes, villas and condominiums; a Town Center complete with shops and restaurants; a family-oriented beach and swim club; more than 20 miles of nature trails as well as a park with athletic fields and playground equipment, among other amenities. Approximately half of the land at the pedestrian-friendly Venetian Bay will be maintained as green space.
