Industry Veteran to Head Venerable Four-County Northeastern Pennsylvania Golf Destination
(POCONO MOUNTAINS, Pennsylvania) – The Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau announces Carl Wilgus has been named the new executive director. Wilgus, an industry veteran who is currently state tourism director and assistant deputy director of the Idaho Department of Commerce, takes over for the retiring Robert Uguccioni, who has been PMVB executive director for 40 years.
A native of Washington state and graduate of the University of Washington, Wilgus has 33 years in the tourism industry and was instrumental in the development and marketing success of the Idaho Golf Trail. Since joining the Idaho Department of Commence, the tourism office has tripled its staff and quadrupled its budget. Additionally, Wilgus is credited with increasing visits to Idaho among Europeans, culinary tourism and outdoor recreation.
"Like the Idaho Golf Trail, course options in the Pocono Mountains are wonderfully varied," says Wilgus. "There are championship courses that will challenge the lowest handicap as well as family-friendly options that are both economical and enjoyable. Our expectations for the golf cooperative are limitless and it’s exhilarating to consider the possibilities."
The Pocono Mountains: Discover Golf’s Great Destination Secret, are home to hundreds of holes of golf from legendary designers such as A.W. Tillinghast, Donald Ross and Jack Nicklaus. In addition to the many golf options, the mountain destination is blessed with numerous lakes and rivers, miles of marked and unmarked trails for hiking and biking, fine dining, shopping and historical site seeing. New to the area this fall is gaming as Mount Airy Casino Resort recently introduced slot machines.
Wilgus and the team at the PMVB are continuing to reinforce this venerable four-season destination with the brand campaign and slogan, "It’s Time for the Pocono Mountains."
