SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — San Diego Golf Academy (SDGA), the oldest and largest golf college in the world, forms unique and long-lasting bonds with its students and the holiday season showcases the family-like atmosphere like no other time of the year. For the seventh consecutive year, SDGA Myrtle Beach Campus has announced plans for its annual Thanksgiving gathering, held specifically for students who will be without family during the holiday break.
"Each year my wife, Marilyn and I have hosted a dinner and gathering in our home for students who remained in the Myrtle Beach area over Thanksgiving," says Eric Wilson, campus director of SDGA Myrtle Beach. "We would hold an Open House from 11:00 in the morning to about 6:00 at night, and the students would play games or watch football and have a proper Thanksgiving dinner. The celebration has become so popular that our guest list now exceeds the space we have available in our home, so we moved the festivities on campus this year to accommodate the larger crowd."
Dinner will be provided by a local catering service and served to all guests of the Thanksgiving event,. The menu includes: turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green bean casserole, rolls, butter, and an assortment of pies. A variety of games such as cards, backgammon, darts, pool, and table soccer will still be included in the celebration. With access to the campus golf facilities, more opportunities for golfing games will also be available such as putting and chipping contests, and a long drive and closest to the pin contest in the golf simulators.
"Parents and students enthusiastically call and send thank you notes for our efforts," adds Wilson. "We just want to make sure the students are able to relax and enjoy the holiday."
SDGA offers a 16-month program of golf instruction and golf business management on four campus locations in major golf markets – Phoenix, Myrtle Beach, Orlando and San Diego. The curriculum is designed to provide graduates with the education required to get the golf job they desire. The SDGA is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), a national advocate and institutional voice for self-regulation of academic quality through accreditation.
