Bulldogs Notch Two Titles in Three Events and Record Nation’s Best Scoring Average

(ATLANTA, GA) – National Golf Products (NGP) announces that the University of Georgia men’s team finished the Fall 2007 season ranked No. 1 in all three major golf polls after training the entire season with THE Golf Mat practice system.

On the way to claiming the top spot in the Golf World/Nike Golf, Golfweek/Sagarin and Golfstat rankings, Georgia recorded two victories and a sixth-place in three official events played. It’s wins came at the prestigious Brickyard Collegiate Championship (Oct. 7-9) and the Isleworth-UCF Invitational (Oct. 22-24), the latter by an astounding 21 strokes over runner-up Clemson.

Throughout a season which saw them compile the nation’s best adjusted scoring average (70.84), the team practiced using THE Golf Mat, a unique system that creates the same sensation of "give" at impact as taking a divot off natural grass.

"I actually think these mats are going to revolutionize golf," says Chris Haack, Head Coach of the University of Georgia men’s golf team. "They are extremely durable and allow players to practice morning, noon and night."

Endorsed by three-time major winner Vijay Singh, THE Golf Mat was developed based on feedback from leading teaching professionals, college coaches and top-flight amateurs. It utilizes a patented fiberglass composite spring embedded below fairway-length turf to produce the first "true grass" alternative. Encouraging a proper "down and through" swing motion that facilitates ideal trajectory, maximum control and lower scores, this patented technology mitigates the likelihood of wrist, elbow and other common injuries.

"Because they use THE Golf Mat system, the University of Georgia is able to provide its players a synthetic surface they can practice on year-round that mirrors real course conditions," says Jon Leven, CEO of NGP. "This puts them at a tremendous advantage over individuals that might be training on traditional golf mats, and acquiring the bad swing habits that go along with that."

Portable and requiring no installation, THE Golf Mat is designed to make practice easier and more convenient. Perfect for backyards or ranges, it features a distinctive, adjustable tee that allows golfers to position the ball according to personal preferences.

THE Golf Mat practice system is available in a variety of pricing packages starting at $199 for consumers and $170 for facilities ordering in bulk. Its typical life-span is more than 200,000 swings, far exceeding that of traditional mats.

The practice surface of choice at numerous high-profile colleges and universities, THE Golf Mat is used at prestigious facilities nationwide that recognize the potential to increase revenues by encouraging longer and more frequent practice sessions. These include Ansley Golf Club at Settindown Creek (GA), Black Diamond Ranch (FL), Charter Oaks Country Club (MA), Coyote Ridge Golf Club (TX) and Pilgrim’s Run Golf Course (MI). This system is sold at better pro shops and golf-specific retailers nationwide, including all Golfsmith locations, as well as online at THE Golf Mat website.
