Every Monday GolfObserver looks at what the big "Buzz" in golf is.
This week the "Buzz" looks at the European Tour’s announcement of the Dubai World Championship and the restructuring of their Order of Merit. The "Buzz" looks at what is involved with the new event which will be the last tournament on the 2009 European Tour schedule, being played during Thanksgiving week. Also a major part of the changes is the restructuring of the money race, now it’s going to have more bite to it as the winner will collect $2 million dollars for winning it.
But the most important aspect of all this will be if Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson will decide to also take membership on the European Tour, as you will see it’s not as hard as one thinks.
Also this week we look at Lorena Ochoa’s win in the ADT Championship. It was her 8th of the year as she completely dominated the LPGA Tour. We also look at how successful the ADT Playoffs were and if the PGA Tour could possibly be looking into a similar format.
Talking about the LPGA we look at the schedule for 2008 and wonder, will the membership be better off with the way Carolyn Bivens is running the tour. One important aspect of 2008 is the fact that work will begin on getting a new television contract for future years and we look at all of the choices that the LPGA will have.
In a business story we look at the sinking of GolfSmith’s stock value and wonder if the company will be able to survive the tough business of selling golf equipment in a marketplace in which a lot of other companies have deep pockets.
Lastly we look at a new golfbook on the marketplace. "Golf Courses of the U.S. Open" was written by David Barrett, we look at the book and tell you if it’s worth buying.
All of these plus other stories for the last couple of weeks of golf including if Phil Mickelson will play in the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, is the Srixon and Cleveland sale a match made on Wall Street, Rory Sabbatini not a very popular person among some Australian pro’s and what’s really up on the Natalie Gulbis front.
