Tommy Armour III Wins, Natalie Gulbis a Runner-Up
Natalie Gulbis, a Lake Las Vegas Resort resident, woke up Sunday morning with a one-in-eight chance at One Million Dollars. But after a late, last-ditch effort, she managed only a runner-up finish at the ADT Championship to Lorena Ochoa, but still earned $100,000 and a great finish. Only the best player in the world, Ochoa, was better than Gulbis over the weekend. And Tommy Arnour III, a former Las Vegas resident who graduated from Bishop Gorman High School, also woke up Sunday morning with a two-shot lead over Nick Watney at the Callaway Invitational at Pebble Beach. Watney is a new resident of Henderson. Armour III fired a final-round 70 to win, while Watney had a 75 and dropped into a 9th-place tie. www.golflasvegasnow.com
Justin Timberlake, PGA Tour Create Las Vegas Golf Buzz
The 2008 Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open is about 11 months away, but for the first time in a long time, the Las Vegas PGA Tour event is drawing coverage months in advance. And the stories are coming from all angles, due solely to the agreement between Timberlake–arguably the world’s biggest star under the age of 30–and the PGA Tour for the music mogul to become the celebrity host in Las Vegas. The coverage has come from traditional golf media outlets, but the entertainment giants have jumped on for this one as well. People, eonline, worldofjustin.com, gossipworld.com, starpulse.com and many others are covering the story. One thing is for sure, tournament week next year will be high on style and glitz.
Badlands Golf Club Demo Day Place to be on Thanksgiving Saturday
The Badlands Golf Club, a Johnny Miller-designed Las Vegas golf course operated by Troon Golf, is welcoming the start of the holiday season with a special demo day on Saturday, Nov. 24, from 9-2 PM. Las Vegas golfers will be able to test the latest and greatest golf clubs from TaylorMade, Titleist, Cobra in addition to gear from Oakley and Adidas plus many others. A unique part of the demo day is that the Badlands and club staff will take trade-in golf clubs towards the purchase of new products at the demo day. The Badlands Golf Club is 27 holes of tantalizing Las Vegas desert golf, and is a memorable and challenging golf experience. badlandsgc.com
