ROANOKE, TEXAS (Dec. 3) – Long Drivers of America (LDA) announced today the sport of long drive will be televised in high definition for the first time on Christmas Day, when ESPN premieres a highlights package from the recent 2007 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship.
ESPN’s 90-minute program, which will air at 1 p.m. EST, incorporates a behind-the-scenes look at RE/MAX championship week in Mesquite, Nevada, which took place in late October and included a tribute to U.S. armed forces sponsored by Cadbury Schweppes.
Long drive legend Art Sellinger and two-time U.S. Open champion Andy North serve as co-hosts of ESPN’s telecast, which was produced by Chris Ohlmeyer.
Crowned as 2007 RE/MAX world champions and widely recognized as golf’s longest hitters were:
Open Division – Mike Dobbyn (Las Vegas, Nev.), 385 yards;
Senior Division – Frank Miller (Covina, Calif.), 394 yards;
Super Senior – Mike Gorton (Lafayette, Colo.), 340 yards;
Grand Champion – Rick Barry (Colorado Springs, Colo.), 348 yards;
Women – Sheila Kelliher (Quartz Hill, Calif.), 329 yards.
Qualifying for the 2008 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship will begin in February at the RE/MAX world championship grid at the Palms GC in Mesquite.
