Stefan Wiedergruen of Charlotte and Amanda Blumenherst of Duke named Mid-Season "Players of the Year"; Mid-Season All-American Teams also Selected

NEW YORK, NY—Golf World has announced its mid-season awards for the first half of the 2007-08 collegiate golf season. Select awards are pasted below and the complete mid-season review can be viewed online now at www.golfdigest.com/magazine/blogs/campusinsider.

In the "Players of the Mid-Year" category, juniors Stefan Wiedergruen of Charlotte and Amanda Blumenherst of Duke earned the honors for their accomplishments during the first half of the season. Wiedergruen, a native of Germany, posted a 69.83 stroke average this fall and won two of the four stroke-play events he played (the Ping/Golfweek Preview and the Stockton Sports.com Pacific Invitational). He also tied for runner-up in a third event (the Scenic City Invitational). Wiedergruen set a 54-hole school record in his Pacific Invite win, shooting a 17-under 199. His play also helped the 49ers win four team titles this fall and claim the No. 3 spot in the final Golf World/Nike Golf coaches’ poll of the season.

Blumenherst, a native of Scottsdale, posted a 69.58 stroke average and broke par in nine of her 12 stroke play rounds. She won the Mason Rudolph Women’s Invitational, finished second at the Margaret Branch NCAA Fall Preview, won the Lady Tar Heel Invitational and finished tied for fifth at the Stanford Intercollegiate. Blumenherst now has nine career college titles, second most in Duke history (12 – Mary Anne Widman).
