CELEBRATION, FL (December 11, 2007)— When asked by Mystic Dunes Golf Club owners to build a golf course unlike any other in the area, designer Gary Koch decided to focus on the greens complexes. He wanted to create putting surfaces that would demand as much imagination and creativity from players of all skill levels.
Mission accomplished.
The 2008 PGA Professional’s Guide to Travel recently named the greens at Mystic Dunes Golf Club as being among the most difficult in all of golf. This consumer publication is a collaboration between The PGA of America and the publisher of PGA Magazine.
"I think Mystic Dunes stands out because the greens are challenging and the areas around the greens allow better golfers to play any shot imaginable and be more creative with their short games. At the same time, they are fair enough to suit the average golfer just as well," said Melissa Suttles, General Manager of Mystic Dunes Resort & Golf Club.
Koch, a Champions Tour player and NBC golf analyst, created a premier Central Florida course that is a par 71, 7,012-yard trek through marshland and stately oaks on the front nine, and mounding and sand bunkers reminiscent of Scotland on the back. "Gary was asked to design a course that would have people talking about it after they leave and make them want to come back to play it again. I’d say he succeeded in this request," said Suttles.
The PGA Professional’s Guide to Travel was recently sent to PGA Professional-staffed facilities across the country. According to PGA.com, "Golfers of all skill levels can benefit from the valuable advice dispensed by PGA members in the PGA Professionals’ Guide to Travel."
