(Hershey, PA) – Carrying on the tradition and prestige of championship golf that is at the heart of the Hershey Resorts’ golf experience, the West Course at Hershey Country Club has been ranked among the best resort golf courses by Golfweek magazine. The designation in the Top 100 is part of the magazine’s 2008 Definitive Guide to the Golf Life. The West Course was ranked number 92 overall.
Consistently included among the top golf resorts in the United States by major golf publications, the Hershey Golf Collection now features 63 holes of golf – the West and East courses at Hershey Country Club, the newly added Hershey Links (formerly Wren Dale Golf Club) and the historic Spring Creek Golf Course.
The West Course is a classic par-72 layout designed by Maurice McCarthy in 1915; it winds its way through tree-lined fairways and challenging hazards. The signature hole of the West Course is the par-3 fifth hole with High Point Mansion, Milton S. Hershey’s former home, as a spectacular backdrop. The West Course hosted the PGA Championship in 1940, when Byron Nelson defeated Sam Snead in the finals of what then was a match-play event, 1 up.
On the East Course, a par-71, designer George Fazio captured the natural beauty of central Pennsylvania’s countryside with spectacular views that golfers can appreciate on every hole. The 7,061-yard course boasts numerous natural hazards, rolling fairways and difficult greens. The East Course hosted a Nationwide Tour event for eight years.
Hershey Links, which opened in 2000 as Wren Dale Golf Club, is a contemporary design that overlooks Hershey from nearby Hummelstown. Hershey Links stretches along natural bluffs and ravines that create a peaceful setting, while providing ample shot-making challenges. Playing to 7,009 yards from the longest of five sets of tees, the par 72 features bentgrass greens, fairways and tees accented throughout the course by tall, golden-brown fescues.
Spring Creek Golf Course is a family-friendly, nine-hole layout renowned as the nation’s first public golf course opened to boys and girls under the age of 18.
