Danny Edwards, founder of the revolutionary new GreenFix Golf Ball Mark Elimination System, announced today that a successful settlement has been reached with Ahead Golf on its patent infringement lawsuit filed against Ahead. In the settlement, Ahead agrees to cease manufacture, marketing, distribution and sales of any ball mark repair tool with the “earth engaging feature” which is patented by GreenFix Golf. Ahead is also enjoined from assembling or importing the Ahead tool or any ball mark repair tool with this patented earth engaging feature. GreenFix Golf also received financial damages from Ahead Golf.
Edwards said, “we are pleased that the years of research and study that have led to the design, development and introduction of this revolutionary industry changing product have been recognized”. Edwards continued “ball mark repair has puzzled our game for many years. Courses and course leaders all across the country have now found that not only does this system bring a new short tong tool that is much easier for players to use correctly, but simple education and awareness that gets more players fixing more ball marks than ever before”.
“The existence of this ball mark problem for all these years is evidence, says Edwards, to the poor design and difficulty players have in using the traditional long tong tools”. Experts agree that courses came under pressure during the late 70’s and early 80’s to speed up the pace of their greens. However, the grasses that were available at that time were not bred to be cut low enough to produce PGA TOUR speeds. So, the experts went to work and developed new strands of grasses, among them the A’s, G’s and L’s to accommodate these closer cutting heights. But there was a big problem that went with these new grasses; the vertical growth of the plants, as opposed to the “creeping” nature of the older grasses, made the repair of a ball mark even more critical. These new vertical growing grasses produced wonderful putting speeds but actually exacerbated the ball mark problem and increased “days to recovery”, because there was no creeping or covering nature to the plants. In actuality, it became “weeks to recovery”.
Said Edwards, “courses that adopt our system and short tong tools not only see significant improvement in the quality of their putting surfaces but find savings in maintenance and chemical/fertilization applications because the ball marks heal so much faster”.
