First Professional Victory for New TaylorMade TP Red Golf Ball with Low Drag Performance Technology
CARLSBAD, Calif. (January 15, 2008) – TaylorMade-adidas Golf Tour Staff Professional Richard Sterne clinched his third professional European Tour win, emerging victoriously from a three-way playoff at the Joburg Open. This marks the first professional victory for the new TaylorMade® Tour Preferred® (TP) ball with Low-Drag Performance (LDP), a proprietary aerodynamics technology developed to keep the ball in the air longer by maintaining lift and reducing the drag, or resistance against the ball in flight.
Sterne used his TaylorMade TP Red™ LDP, a four-piece ball designed for high-spin players, to devastating effect shooting a final-round 65 to finish 18-under which included seven birdies.
Commenting on the new TaylorMade TP Red LDP ball, Sterne stated, "I love the feel, forgiveness and distance of the new TaylorMade TP Golf Balls. This was the first week that I had put the ball into play, and to come away with a victory is really satisfying. I look forward to many more successful weeks using TaylorMade equipment."
Fellow TaylorMade Tour staff player and TP Red LDP user Darren Clarke also finished strong, posting five birdies en route to a final-round 68, three shots adrift.
TaylorMade’s new TP Red™ LDP balls feature a 360 dimple pattern that keeps the ball in the air longer by maintaining lift and reducing the drag, or resistance against the ball in flight. Additionally, TP Red is engineered to promote especially high speed and distance off the driver; promotes a mid-to-low flight; to deliver controllable full-shot and greenside spin; and to be exceptionally resistant to the effects of head winds and crosswinds.
