Women Volunteers Conduct World?s Largest Amateur Women?s Golf Competition

PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL, January 17, 2008 – The EWGA Championship Committee, the women volunteers who conduct the world’s largest amateur women’s golf competition for members of the Executive Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) are one of three finalists in the Tournament Service category of the 15th Annual ING Industry Honors Awards. Considered “The Academy Awards” of the golf industry, the Industry Honors winners will be announced at the PGA Merchandise Show at the Orange County Convention Center on January 18 at 12:30 p.m. in ClubING, Room 309-A.

Each year from April through July, depending on the area’s golf season, local competitions are held by EWGA chapters throughout the United States and Canada. In 2007, local competitions were held by 117 EWGA chapters with a total of 2447 competitors. At the chapter level, EWGA members compete in individual stroke play in five flights based on USGA handicaps, as well as a scramble team competition. Low gross and low net winners in each flight and the winning scramble team then compete in one of 15 semi-final competitions held throughout the United States. (visit ewga.com for 2008 semi-final dates and locations).

The EWGA Championship Committee, under the direction of EWGA Director of Golf Programs, Stephanie Jennings, a PGA Professional, conduct the 15 Semi-final competitions and the 36-hole championship finals, which will be held at The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club in Aloha, Oregon on September 26 and 27, 2008.

“Now in its 13th year, the EWGA Championship is a premier event for women of all golf skill levels. For some of our members who did not grow up playing sports, this is one of their first experiences in competitive play,” says Pam Swensen, CEO of the EWGA. “The growth and continued excellence of the EWGA Championship would not be possible without the professionalism and dedication of the EWGA Championship Committee. They are very deserving of this recognition.”

Since the EWGA started in 1991, more than 85,000 women have benefited from membership in the organization which is dedicated to providing opportunities to learn, play, and enjoy the game of golf for business and for life. Chapters provide a wide range of golf, social and networking activities for both new and experienced golfers.

The EWGA is headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. For more information about the association and its membership, visit www.ewga.com
