Daytona Beach Duramed FUTURES Classic will be played April 4 – 6
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., January 17 — The Duramed FUTURES Tour announced today the addition of the Daytona Beach Duramed FUTURES Classic to its 2008 tournament schedule. The tournament will be contested April 4 – 6, on the Legends Course at LPGA International Golf Club, home of the LPGA.
The 144-player field will compete for a $100,000 purse, making it one of nine tournament purses on the Tour’s schedule of $100,000 or higher. Winner of the event will earn $14,000.
“We are delighted to add Daytona Beach to our official tournament schedule for 2008,” said Zayra F. Calderon, president of the Duramed FUTURES Tour. “This marks the return of an official women’s professional golf event to the area and to LPGA International, giving golf fans the chance to see the future stars of the LPGA.
“The addition of this event adds to an already record-setting tournament schedule and a season of unprecedented growth and earning potential for our players,” added Calderon.
The April tournament will be the inaugural visit by the Duramed FUTURES Tour in Daytona Beach. LPGA International has hosted various LPGA events over the years, as well as the LPGA’s Final Qualifying Tournament each fall.
The tournament will be the second event on the 2008 schedule, which features 18 tournaments in 15 states with a total record purse of $1.745 million. The Daytona Beach event will benefit the American Lung Association of Florida.
In addition to bringing an official women’s professional golf event back to LPGA International for the first time since 2000, the Duramed FUTURES Tour’s 2008 tournament schedule also will mark a return of women pros to such former LPGA Tour host sites as Leawood South Country Club in Leawood, Kan., and the Golf Center at Kings Island outside Cincinnati, which hosted the LPGA Championship from 1978-1989.
The tournament will feature a weeklong of activities including clinics and two pro-ams, set for Wednesday and Thursday, April 2 and 3, respectively.
