PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL, January 28, 2008 – Karen Furtado, the 2008-2009 president of the board of directors for the Executive Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) will speak at the National Golf Course Owners Association annual conference at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. on Wednesday, January 30 at 2:15 – 3:30 pm.
For the session titled “How the Right Attitude at Your Course Can Help to Attract and Retain Women Golfers”, Furtado has teamed with Nancy Henderson, executive director, LPGA Teaching and Club Professionals. The women will offer insights on how to be a women-friendly course and simple ways to tap into the growth potential of the female golfer market.
A recently released golf participation survey conducted by The PGA of America demonstrates the ‘power of the purse’ – the economic impact that female golfers and especially EWGA members have on the golf industry. The 2007 survey found that EWGA members spent on average $4,528 on golf fees, lessons, equipment, food and beverage, and golf-related travel in the past 12 months,; and an EWGA chapter generates over $698,800 in annual golf-related spending. Considering there are currently 123 EWGA chapters, the organization represents more than $85 million to the golf industry.
“It starts with the right attitude and a sincere commitment to reach out to women golfers,” says Furtado, who is director of Insurance Practice with Collaborative Consulting, a leading professional services firm based in Burlington, Mass. As president of the EWGA, she leads the largest U.S. amateur golf organization geared toward the schedules of working women and whose aim is to continue bringing more women into the game of golf.
Since its founding in 1991, the EWGA has touched the lives of more than 85,000 women by providing opportunities to learn, play, and enjoy the game of golf for business and for life. This not-for-profit association delivers a wide range of golf, social and networking activities for both new and experienced golfers to nearly 20,000 members at over 120 local chapters throughout the United States and international chapters in Canada and France.
The EWGA is headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. For more information about the association and its membership, visit www.ewga.com
