BLUE BELL, Pa. (February 5, 2008) – At a time when most private country clubs are looking for new ideas to help them progress into the future, Meadowlands Country Club in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania has taken a page out of the history books. There was a time when a Touring Pro being attached to a private country club was a common experience. Byron Nelson was once the Touring Pro, who played out of Reading CC. Ben Hogan was once the Touring Pro out of Hershey CC. Meadowlands has taken a move that evokes those images.
Scott Ehrlich, a former Philadelphia Amateur Champion, and now a road warrior on the mini-tour circuit, has signed as the official Touring Pro representing Meadowlands CC.
“Scott grew up in our junior program and won his first club championship at age 16,” explained Meadowlands CC president Alan Gelman. “When he started to find some success on the professional circuit, it was a natural for us to consider him as an official representative of Meadowlands. In addition, he is a fine gentleman and a steward of the game of golf. That was the most important consideration.”
Last year Ehrlich played on the North American Pro Golf Tour, previously the New England Pro Golf Tour. That organization launched Sean O’Hair to the PGA Tour. Last fall Ehrlich competed in the PGA Tour Qualifying School, maneuvering through the first stage before falling in the second stage. He did not receive his PGA Tour card but did make it through Qualifying School for the Hooters Tour and will spend this summer honing his game at that level.
“This was the first time I was healthy for the Qualifying School and thought I had a pretty good shot but things didn’t fall my way and you just look to do better this year,” explained Ehrlich. “It was a good learning experience.”
When not playing on the Hooters Tour and competing in Monday qualifiers for the Nationwide Tour, Ehrlich will work with the husband-and-wife professional team of Paul and Jennifer Barnsley at Meadowlands. He will take part in a number of junior clinics and work on special junior projects.
“Scott has a bright future and we are happy to work along with him at Meadowlands,” said Paul Barnsley. “I have seen him develop and he will be a wonderful representative of the club.”
