JUPITER, Fla. – Professional golfers expect top performance from their equipment, and the patented SST PURE® Shaft Alignment Technology is making a huge impact on the pro tours. The SST PURE labels were highly visible on players’ shafts during the recent playoff at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am event on the PGA Tour, and the SST PURE tour van has been inundated this year with tour player requests that their shafts be PUREd.
With the sole exception of Henry-Griffitts, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) randomly insert shafts into the clubheads during assembly and more tour pros than ever are recognizing this manufacturing process undermines potential performance on the course. Currently, the SST PURE Shaft Alignment System – licensed by Strategic Shaft Technologies (SST) L.C. – is used by more than 200 players on the PGA and European Tours.
“Most PGA Tour players don’t like equipment surprises when facing the level of competition they see every week,” says Steve Hosid, instruction editor for PGA TOUR Partners Magazine. “Having clubs PUREd by SST guarantees their state-of-the-art equipment will perform as the manufacturers intended. But that would not have been the case before SST PURE technology.”
Hosid explains that pros clearly understand the benefits of taking any mystery out of shaft performance, and today that is achieved by making sure that SST has analyzed each shaft and scientifically located the most stable position – the PURE position – in which the shaft must be oriented in the clubhead.
Twenty-year industry veteran Arnie Cunningham agrees. “PURE alignment technology has definitely made a positive impact on the pro players,” says Cunningham, PGA Tour representative for SST. “SST PURE alignment minimizes the shaft’s off-line bending and twisting, improves the player’s ball striking ability and maximizes their impact repeatability.”
“We have the industry’s most successful and most accurate shaft performance enhancement tool in professional golf, and every player wants a competitive edge. So, they either bring their clubs to the SST PURE tour van or they have their manufacturer reps bring the shafts to be PUREd before assembly,” adds Dick Weiss, president and managing partner of Strategic Shaft Technologies and founder of the SST PURE shaft alignment process. “This year, our mobile tour vans are attending more than 50 pro tour events, and the player demand is higher than ever.”
Using proprietary computer software and sensitive data-acquisition sensors, the SST PURE shaft alignment process analyzes the structural irregularities that exist to some degree in every golf shaft and locates the shaft’s most stable orientation. By assembling the club with the shaft in its SST PURE orientation, off-line bending and twisting of the shaft are minimized and impact repeatability on the center of the clubface by the golfer improves by up to 51 percent. The process can be performed on existing clubs, new clubs or new shafts – steel or graphite – from all major manufacturers.
During the 2007 season, SST PURE-aligned shafts delivered total earnings of more than $94 million and won18 PGA Tour victories, two major championships, the Canadian Open and the Order of Merit for the second consecutive year.
