Van Halen with Golfer/Guitarist To Rock Tiger Jam XI
It’s not much of a secret that Tiger Woods loves Las Vegas, and for many different reasons. He worked with Las Vegas pro Butch Harmon for many years, he likes the entertainment and fun the city offers, and he almost attended college golf powerhouse UNLV. And for the last several years, Woods has held his Tiger Jam in Las Vegas with high-level entertainment acts and celebrities such as Christina Aguilera, Bon Jovi, Seal, Michael Jordan, Pamela Anderson, Will Ferrell and many others performing and attending. And April 19, 2008, Van Halen will headline Tiger Jam XI that includes a golf tournament at prestigous Las Vegas golf course Cascata. Eddie Van Halen, founding guitarist, is a golfer that plays to about an 18 handicap. Cascatagolf.com
President’s Day Las Vegas Golf Style: World’s Leaders Play Here
Many leaders of the free world have been golfers, and many of them have teed it up on the best Las Vegas golf courses including Las Vegas Country Club, Desert Inn, Southern Highlands Golf Club, Bali Hai Golf Club and Shadow Creek. Bill Clinton sometimes walks right down the Las Vegas Strip to his Las Vegas golf round while George Bush #41 is the only guy allowed to fish on the hallowed grounds of the Tom Fazio Las Vegas golf course Shadow Creek, the exclusive golf course owned by MGM Mirage. And John F. Kennedy and Gerald Ford were said to have tee’d it up at the old Desert Inn, one of Las Vegas’ most historic golf courses that was razed to make room for a new Tom Fazio and Steve Wynn masterpiece. UNLV’s Masters of College Golf at Southern Highlands
Anytime the word Masters and golf are used in the same sentence, you know that something special must be happening. And that is the case every year for the home event, the Southern Highlands Collegiate, on the UNLV men’s golf schedule, unofficially called the ‘Masters of College Golf’. Typically the field that tees it up at the Robert Trent Jones Jr. and Sr. co-designed Southern Highlands Golf Club is one of the deepest of the year, and sometimes tougher than the field at the NCAA finals. March 7-9, six of the current top 10 teams in the country will play, along with five of the top six individuals. Back is defending champion UCLA in addition to the Rebels, who finished fourth last year and are ranked 24th.
