Solo Third and Tie For Fifth at HSBC New Zealand PGA Championship Help Scratch Pick Up in 2008 Where it Left Off at the End of the 2007 Nationwide Tour
Eugene, OR, February 20, 2008 – Four Scratch Golf (www.scratchgolf.com) wedges were in the bags of players that earned solo 3rd and tie for 5th place finishes at last weekend’s Nationwide Tour event, the HSBC New Zealand PGA Championship, which was held at the Clearwater Resort in Christchurch, New Zealand. A Scratch Golf 61 degree PWE wedge was used by the third place finisher. 51 and 55 degree DOG grinds and a 59 degree PWE grind was used in the tie for 5th. The two top tens by Scratch were the highest finishes of the early, overseas leg of the 2008 Nationwide Tour season. Scratch Golf became the # 1 Forged Wedge on the Nationwide Tour over the past 12 weeks of that 2007 Nationwide Tour season. Scratch wedges also earned status as an Award Winner on Rankmark’s 2007-8 “Best of the Best” Wedges list that was published over the winter.
“It’s a thrill to have two top tens so early in the season,” Scratch Golf Tour Rep Paul Friedrich began. “As always, we congratulate the guys for their performances and wish them well for the rest of the 2008 season. This weekend the Nationwide is set to go to Australia this weekend for the last part of this season opening foreign swing. We look forward to working directly with the guys when the get back to the States to continue the Nationwide season in March.”
Scratch Golf Tour Department “Digger/Driver” Grinds
SND
The SND is a Digger/Driver grind designed for maximum stability on fuller shots. High bounce angle and little camber or relief helps prevent fat shots. Little trailing edge relief and a full heel and toe increase stability on fuller swings from grass lies and from the sand.
SFU
The SFU is the most versatile of the Digger/Driver grinds. High bounce and flat non cambered sole helps prevent fat shots. The aggressive relief in the heel and toe allows the face to be opened around the greens without increasing the leading edge height.
DOG
The DOG is very similar to the SND grind except it has a moderate amount of camber, less trailing edge relief and a fall away heel. This Digger/Driver grind is one of our more popular grinds on the major Tours. This wedge and is designed for versatility when the face is square or slightly open and maximum playability on fuller shots.
PWE
The PWE is similar to the EGG grind except it has a pre-worn channel in the middle of the sole and a little less trailing edge relief. It wants to bite into the ground more upon initial contact than our other Digger/Driver wedges. The extreme relief allows the leading edge to sit low to the ground with the face open while the higher bounce angle and preworn channel help prevent digging and improve bunker play.
SLT
The SLT is a versatile Digger/Driver grind with increased playability on fuller swings. Aggressive relief in the heel and toe and slightly lower bounce allow the leading edge to sit closer to the ground when the face is open. Slight trailing edge relief allows for increased playability from sand and fuller shots off grass lies.
XDG
The XDG is designed to prevent digging for the extremely aggressive Digger/Driver with a very steep swing. The slightly lower bounce on the front edge allows the club to bite into the ground on contact without resistance. The extremely high bounce on the back edge brings the club back out of the ground and prevents excessive digging.
