DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., February 25, 2008 – Lisa D. Mickey, Director of Communications/ Senior Writer of New Media for the Duramed FUTURES Tour, picked up her second consecutive national writing award in the Golf Writers Association of America’s Annual Writing Contest, announced last week.
Mickey won the Internet Feature category with her story that appeared on duramedfuturestour.com entitled, “Young Widow Turns Focus To Professional Golf.” The feature is about Tour member Jenny Hansen of Nebraska who lost her husband while he was assigned to a tour of duty as a soldier in Iraq. The story ran on duramedfuturestour.com on May 28, 2007. Here is the story link: http://duramedfuturestour.com/News/WR052807.pdf
“It’s nice to be recognized by my peers in the news industry,” said Mickey. “But I’m most honored that Jenny Hansen shared her very personal story with me and that our web site was the first place to run the story that focused on this remarkable woman’s courage.”
Jim Gorant of SI.com also wrote about Hansen later in the year and collected the top award for Internet Columns. In addition, Mickey received an Honorable Mention in Internet Columns for her story on LPGA.com entitled, “Se Ri Pak Has Led A Nation.”
The Annual Golf Writers Association’s Writing Contest awards writers for their exceptional golf stories written in 2007 in three categories: Daily, Non-Daily, and Internet. Within each category, awards are given out based on four subcategories: Columns, News, Features and Special Projects. Mickey, along with the other category winners, will be honored at the GWAA Annual Awards Dinner on April 9, in Augusta, Ga.
