LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. (March 3, 2008) – The award-winning GolfTalk Live radio show, hosted by Tony Leodora, has begun its third year on the air.
GolfTalk Live, which airs 52 weeks a year from 7 to 8 a.m. each Saturday on WNTP 990-AM and on www.wntp.com, is an interview-driven golf show that has grabbed national attention. At the PGA Merchandise Show in January, GolfTalk Live was voted America’s Best Golf Radio Show by the prestigious International Network of Golf.
Now it begins its third year with a promise to continue growing the show, as it has the last two years, and bringing listeners throughout the Delaware Valley the best in golf coverage, golf entertainment and golf lifestyle.
“The show model has evolved over the last two years into a reflection of the lifestyle and interests of avid golfers, while supplying enough general entertainment and information to keep even the casual golf fan interested,” explained Leodora, who also serves the golf world as editor of GolfStyles Philadelphia magazine and is a regular guest panelist on the Inside Golf television show. “We are still polishing and improving our product and promise an even better show throughout this third year.”
While the show primarily is broadcast from different locations around the Greater Philadelphia area, a few more exotic sites are on tap for the new year. Based on successful reaction to travels in the past year to golf hotbeds such as Doral, Reynolds Plantation and the Ritz Carlton Golf Resort in Naples, GolfTalk Live will be on the road again in upcoming months.
The first two months of the new year reflect the travel mode. GolfTalk Live will visit locations such as Phillies spring training in Clearwater, a return to the Ritz Carlton Golf Resort in Naples, the Atlantic-10 Championship in Atlantic City, the Masters, Sunset Beach in North Carolina and Myrtle Beach for the annual Hootie and the Blowfish Monday after the Masters Bash.
Of course, GolfTalk Live also will broadcast from the Philadelphia area’s favorite golf courses and golf events throughout the season. Look for the local schedule to start with a visit to Spring-Ford CC on Saturday, April 19 in preparation for the club’s Invitational Pro-Am and salute to retiring head professional Tony DeGisi. Other major events on the schedule include the Philadelphia Amateur Championship at Whitemarsh Valley CC, the 50th anniversary of the 1958 PGA Championship at Llanerch CC, the opening round of the Montgomery County Amateur Championship from Raven’s Claw GC and a number of special events from Atlantic City.
Throughout most of the winter months, GolfTalk Live holds “Breakfast with the Golfers,” a live broadcast from Ray’s Diner and Malt Shop on Germantown Pike in East Norriton. The large, 1950s-style diner is the perfect cold-weather site for golfers who insist on talking about the game when they are unable to play it.
In addition to the on-air changes this year, GolfTalk Live will be announcing its own official Director of Instruction, as well as expanding the popular Equipment Corner from Golfdom in King of Prussia, to include interviews with other manufacturers and golf companies in an attempt to keep golfers on the cutting edge of technology.
Also, a dedicated website, www.golftalklive.net is under construction to supplement the information available on GolfTalk Live and allow the listeners to listen to the show at any time during the week.
Finally, the extremely popular GolfTalk Minute commentary has been expanded to air 20 times a week, during prime time, on WNTP 990-AM. These lively commentaries by show host Leodora air on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. They also will be archived so they can be heard on www.golftalklive.net.
“This partnership has been a very successful one for our radio station,” said Russ Whitnah, general manager of WNTP. “GolfTalk Live brings the best in local programming to our station. Tony’s success, both locally and nationally, is good for the game of golf, good for Philadelphia and good for our station. We look forward to a long relationship.”
