The Northern California Golf Association is pleased to announce the formation of the NCGA Junior Tour, a new series that will provide opportunities for juniors from the ages of 12-18 to compete in a tournament atmosphere. The NCGA is committed to identifying and developing the top junior golfers in Northern California, and the Junior Tour is a large part of its vision.
“The NCGA has felt for a few years that they’ve wanted get more involved with junior golf,” said Junior Tour operations manager John Vander Borght. “With that in mind, and in keeping with their vision of identifying and developing the top junior golfers in Northern California, the decision was made to start a junior tour. With so many events already available for kids in the summer, it was decided to have spring and fall tournaments.”
The Junior Tour will conduct 7-8 events in the spring and fall of 2008. The spring events will be held at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach on March 8-9; Stevinson Ranch Golf Course in Stevinson on March 15-16; and at Poplar Creek Golf Course in San Mateo on April 5-6. The fall events will be held at Haggin Oaks Golf Course in Sacramento on September 20-21; Foxtail Golf Course in Rohnert Park on September 27-28; Poppy Ridge Golf Course in Livermore on October 11-12; and at Hunter Ranch Golf Course in Paso Robles on October 25-26. The spring events are full, but registration is being accepted for placement on a waiting list.
Juniors will compete in five age divisions (three for boys, two for girls).
A total of 243 juniors have already joined the tour. Entry fees for each tournament are $60. For NCGA members or juniors whose parents are NCGA members, the fee to join the tour is $50 while for non-members, it’s $75. For families who cannot afford the fees, financial aid is available.
