USGA Rules Change Opens Up The Door For New Golf Products.

Carlsbad, CA: The Rules Committee of the USGA and the R&A have modified their long-standing rule on attachments to the grip ends of putters, opening the door for golf accessory companies to develop new products that attach to the end of the putters. This rule, which previously had an exception to allow the use of the rubber suction cup, has now been revised. With certain restrictions, it will allow other products as long as they do not affect the putting stroke and are within certain size limitations.

One of the first companies to conform to this newly modified ruling is Starting Time, a Carlsbad, California manufacturer of golf products. They have now been notified that their Fix-Master™ divot tool, which attaches to the end of the putter, now conforms to the newly modified rule. Hugh Penton, President of Starting Time, comments: “I believe that this conformance was approved since the Fix-Master seamlessly integrates on to the handle and does not affect the golfer’s putt.”

As far as the Fix-Master is concerned, it can be an important development for golf courses. It is so easy and efficient to repair a ball mark while standing, that golfers who may just repair only their own mark, will repair others with the Fix-Master. More golfers will repair more marks with the Fix-Master, leaving the greens in far better putting condition.

To use the Fix-Master, golfers simply hold the putter head, stand over the mark and jab the ground around the ball mark a few times. Penton adds, “It is actually rather addictive, it has become a habit with me at this point. By having the Fix-Master fastened to the end of the golfer’s putter, it makes it unnecessary to even bend over to make the repair of the ball mark. This is a great benefit to all golfers, particularly those with stiff or sore backs. The prongs are designed to take the work out of ball mark repair. They leave a smoother surface, with only small aeration holes that will speed the recovery of the damaged grass surface. Golf courses that make the Fix-Master mandatory can look forward to significantly healthier greens.”

For new golfers, or those that are not familiar with the proper repair of ball marks on the greens, the Fix-Master is easier to use properly than any other divot tool. Many times, ball repair is done incorrectly and results in a scarred spot on the green that is slow to heal. The Fix-Master’s lifting action ensures a successful repair every time with no tearing of grass roots that damages the putting surface. And, there is even a ball marker in the cap that can have a custom logo for golf events or corporate gifts.
