Blue Devils Keep Top Spot
NEW YORK, NY-The first Golf World/NGCA Division I Coaches’ Poll of the spring season has been released, combining the resources of Golf World magazine and the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA). The complete results, including results from Divisions II and III, will appear in the March 7th issue of Golf World and can be viewed online now at www.golfworld.com.
Duke opens the spring as the top team in the poll, a ranking it has held throughout the entire 2007-08 season. The Blue Devils earned 18 of the 29 first-place votes after finishing tied for second in their first event of the spring, the Arizona Wildcat Invitational.
UCLA moved up one spot to second and received eight first-place votes. Rounding out the top-five are USC (No. 3), Arizona State (No. 4) and Florida (No. 5).
Oklahoma State (No. 9) moved into the top-10 after winning the Arizona Wildcat Invitational. The win was the Cowgirls first of the 2007-08 season. Purdue (No. 10) also pushed its way into the top-10 after a top-five finish at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. This was Purdue’s third top-five finish of the season.
Texas A&M (No. 23) is the only newcomer to the top-25. The Aggies finished second in their first tournament of the spring, the Central District Invitational.
