SCHAUMBURG, Illinois (March 10, 2008) – Cobra Golf has selected Nippon Shaft to be the stock steel shaft for three of its new 2008 iron models, two of which already have been named to Golf Digest magazine’s latest equipment "Hot List."
Cobra is stocking the Nippon Shaft N.S. Pro 900XH in the company’s King Cobra Men’s S9 irons, which have been named to Golf Digest’s Hot List for the second consecutive year.
Cobra is stocking the Nippon Shaft N.S. Pro 1030 in the company’s King Cobra Men’s FP irons, which also have been named to Golf Digest’s 2008 Hot List. Th FP irons come stocked with the N.S. Pro 1030 shafts, each of which weighs approximately 103 grams and are constant-weighted through the set. The FP irons have been designed to maximize both forgiveness and playability.
The King Cobra Men’s UFi irons also will be stocked with the N.S. Pro 900XH shaft, which weighs only 90 grams and is constant-weighted through the set. Cobra calls the UFi irons "by far Cobra’s most technologically advanced irons."
"We are thrilled that Cobra Golf has decided to utilize Nippon Shaft products as stock items in their premier product line," said Hiroyuki Fukuda, head of sales and marketing for Nippon Shaft USA. "Cobra products represent the cutting edge of technology – and we are very proud of the association. The combination of Cobra’s great design and advanced technology along with Nippon Shaft’s premium lightweight steel shafts can make a real difference in how golfers practice and play."
Cobra first utilized Nippon Shaft as a stock steel shaft in its irons in 2005.
"Cobra Golf chose Nippon Shaft as the stock steel shaft supplier for the Men’s S9 irons, Men’s FP irons, and the UFi irons because of the company’s consistent high quality and performance," said Cobra Golf general manager Jeff Harmet. "Nippon Shaft also is a reliable supplier and business partner."
Many golfers prefer to use Nippon Shaft’s lightweight steel shafts in their irons because they can provide more accuracy and consistency than graphite. Nippon Shaft has been a pioneer in manufacturing lightweight steel shafts, which help players increase club head speed (because of reduced weight) without sacrificing accuracy (because of the sturdiness of the steel).
The difference between Nippon Shaft and other mid-weight and lightweight steel shafts is that Nippon Shafts are 100 percent made in a state-of-the-art Japanese factory using unique proprietary materials and a specialized heat-treatment process, Fukuda said. The manufacturing process is overseen by a highly trained and veteran staff that operates according to the highest manufacturing standards in the world.
"Nippon Shaft is better because it provides golfers with better overall control: superior distance control, superior trajectory control, and superior shot dispersion control," Fukuda said. "Because Nippon Shaft makes good shafts, the ball is more likely to go where you want it to go."
Nippon Shaft is the No. 1-selling steel shaft in Asia with more than 80 percent of the market and ranks No. 2 in North America. Currently, more than 100 touring professionals worldwide use Nippon Shaft products, resulting in more than 50 victories in the last three years, Fukuda said.
Nippon Shaft is a subsidiary of privately held NHK, a Japanese automobile parts manufacturer based in Yokohama, Japan. Nippon Shaft’s North American headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois.
