Arjun Atwal Rallies To Win Malaysian Open On Second Extra Hole
Fairhaven, MA (March 11, 2008) – Bernhard Langer outlasted defending champion and Titleist ambassador Jay Haas to win the Toshiba Classic with a birdie on the seventh hole of an all-Titleist Pro V1 playoff. Langer, who closed with a 2-under 69, birdied the final hole of regulation to force the playoff with Haas, who fired a final round 6-under 65. Both players finished the 54-hole event at 14-under 199. It marks the second career title in nine Champions Tour starts for Langer.
– In addition to the Pro V1 golf ball, Jay Haas also relied upon a Titleist 905R driver, 904F fairway metal, 585.H utility metals, new AP2 irons, Vokey Design sand and lob wedges and a Scotty Cameron by Titleist Studio Design putter for his success.
– Titleist was the most played golf ball at the event with 51 players, nearly five times the nearest competitor with 11.
PGA EUROPEAN TOUR: In another playoff, Arjun Atwal trusted the Pro V1x golf ball to top the defending champion with a par on the second extra hole at the Maybank Malaysian Open. The pair finished regulation locked at 18-under 270 after Atwal fired a sizzling final round 8-under par 64. It marked the third career PGA European Tour title for Atwal who also won this event the last time he played it in 2003. The event was co-sanctioned by the PGA European and Asian Tours.
– In addition to the Pro V1x, the champion also relied upon Vokey Design Spin Milled TVD sand (54) and lob (60) wedges for his success.
– Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Maybank Malaysian Open with 95 players, more than four times the nearest competitor with 21.
PGA TOUR: Four Titleist ambassadors were among six players who posted runner-up finishes at the PODS Championship, including: Ryuji Imada: Pro V1x, 907D4 prototype driver, 906F2 fairway metals, 695CB irons, Vokey Design pitching, sand and lob wedges, Scotty Cameron putter; Troy Matteson: Pro V1, 905R driver, 906F4 fairway metal, AP2 irons, Vokey Design Spin Milled TVD sand and lob wedges; Billy Mayfair: Pro V1x, 905R driver, 906F4 fairway metal, 804.OS irons, Vokey Design sand wedge and Spin Milled lob wedge; George McNeill: Pro V1, 907D4 prototype driver, 906F2 fairway metal, 735 CM irons, Vokey Design Spin Milled sand and lob wedges, Scotty Cameron putter. John Senden also tied for second playing the Pro V1 golf ball.
– Titleist was the most played golf ball at the PODS Championship with 92 players, more than four times the nearest competitor with 20. In addition to being the most played ball, Titleist was the most played wedge (119) and putter (41). Titleist was second in drivers (30) and iron sets (30).
WORLDWIDE GOLF BALL WINS: With two more golf ball wins across the worldwide professional tours this week, Titleist’s 2008 victory total advanced to 26, more than five times the nearest competitor with 5.
