Zach Johnson, Vaughn Taylor Coach & Payne Stewart Prot̩g̩ Offers Smart, Practical Fundamental Lessons
(DALLAS, TX – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE) Pat O’Brien, the putting coach for Masters Champion Zach Johnson and Ryder Cup team member Vaughn Taylor, is introducing his first instructional DVD that offers smart, practical and proven fundamentals based on lessons learned from superior putters and their performance in the Majors and other challenging and critical putting conditions.
O’Brien’s first instructional DVD is a comprehensive, concise and compelling presentation of his four putting fundamentals: grip, posture, stance and alignment.
The lessons and teaching philosophy are based on O’Brien’s study of Payne Stewart and his record-breaking performance, including the US Open championship in 1999. They also reflect his teaching experience with Masters Champion, Ryder Cup team member and Nationwide Tour putting record holder Zach Johnson and fellow Ryder Cup team member and perennial PGA Tour putting statistics leader Vaughn Taylor.
“I am very excited to share my proven and simple putting fundamentals in this new instruction DVD,” says O’Brien. “I am particularly impressed with how the DVD comes across as a personal one-on-one private lesson with me. My friends and students who have seen it love how easy it is to learn from this presentation, and practice its lessons regularly and consistently to improve all aspects of their putting performance.”
Fundamentals Proven in Tour’s Most Clutch Performances
O’Brien’s fundamentals were derived from his year-long study of his friend Payne Stewart throughout the 1999 season, when Stewart led the Tour in fewest putts per round using a SeeMore putter. Stewart completed the final round of the US Open at Pinehurst with only 24 putts in what is considered the greatest putting performance in Major Championship history.
He also one-putted the last three holes to win the championship by one stroke, and sunk what’s considered to be the longest putt in Open history on the 18th hole to win the championship by one shot. He also won the overall putting title for fewest putts per round over the entire 1999 season. O’Brien developed a simple theory on putting and the putting pendulum or arc stroke before this putting system became popular.

In 2000, O’Brien began working with Taylor and Johnson and coached them as they advanced from the Hooters tour to the Nationwide tour, PGA tour and the Ryder Cup in six years, based on the strength of consistently good putting. In addition to Masters championships, shooting a course record 60 at the Tour Championship, qualifying for the Ryder Cup team and winning five times on Tour, Zach Johnson and Vaughn Taylor have also both won tour putting titles in the past four years using SeeMore putters.
In fact, following in Stewart’s footsteps (Payne was #1 in fewest putts per round in 1999 and #2 in putts per GIR), Johnson won the putting title in 2003 on Nationwide tour with fewest putts per GIR (1.699), and Taylor had the best putting average (1.725) of PGA tour top 40 money list in 2006.
O’Brien is producing this DVD in conjunction with SeeMore Putter Company. He is an advisor to SeeMore and a member of the Titleist Leadership Advisory Staff.
The SeeMore brand was re-launched with the new mSeries of putters in January 2007, and immediately regained worldwide prominence as Johnson used a SeeMore FGP to win the 2007 Masters. The company’s other breakthrough 2007 accomplishments including wins at the Scandinavian Masters, the AT&T Classic, a course record 60 at the Tour Championship, and two victories on the Duramed Futures Tour.
“We are thrilled to expand our relationship with Pat through this smart, practical and compelling instructional DVD,” says Jim Grundberg, managing director and co-owner of the SeeMore Putter Company. “Pat’s fundamentals, whose success has been proven in the Tour’s most remarkable clutch putting performances, are easy to understand, review and to incorporate into improved putting.”
“SeeMore is proud to recognize how the clear, concise and proven success of Pat’s fundamental lessons reflect the proven performance of our Riflescope Technology alignment system in improving putting,” says Grundberg. “This DVD will add valuable insights to the body of knowledge on Tour and with teaching professionals and students worldwide.”
The new O’Brien instructional DVD will cost $20 plus shipping and handling and is available through eventually through Pat O’Brien’s website www.patobrienputting.com and through SeeMore’s website www.seemore.com .
