Denis Watson Tops Loren Roberts In Pro V1 Playoff.
Fairhaven, MA (March 17, 2008) – In just her fourth career start, Sweden’s Louise Friberg relied upon the Titleist Pro V1 golf ball to win her first LPGA Tour title at the MasterCard Classic. Friberg closed with a final round 7-under 65 for a 6-under 210 total and a one-stroke victory over Taiwan’s Yani Tseng (Pro V1x, 905R driver, 735 irons, Scotty Cameron Newport 2 putter). Friberg, who started the day 10 strokes behind overnight leader, posted an eagle, six birdies and just one bogey en route to her 65 – the best final round score by three strokes. Of the nine players who finished among the top eight and ties, six trusted Titleist golf balls for their success. Titleist was the most played golf ball at the MasterCard Classic with 99 players, more than three times the nearest competitor with 27.
CHAMPIONS TOUR: Denis Watson (Pro V1x, 905S driver, 695CB irons, Vokey Design wedge) outlasted Loren Roberts (Pro V1) to win the AT&T Champions Classic with a birdie on the third hole of a three-way playoff. Watson fired the day’s best round with a 7-under 65, to finish regulation at 7-under 209. Titleist ambassador Jay Haas (Pro V1, 905R driver, 904F fairway metal, 585.H utility metals, AP2 irons, Vokey Design sand and lob wedges, Scotty Cameron Studio Design putter) finished solo fourth, one shot out of the playoff. It marks Watson’s third career Champions Tour title after winning twice last year. Titleist was the most played golf ball at the event with 49 players, more than three times the nearest competitor with 14.
PGA TOUR: The winner of the Arnold Palmer Invitational drained a 25-foot putt on the 72nd hole with his Scotty Cameron putter to earn a one shot victory over Pro V1x loyalist Bart Bryant. Vijay Singh (Pro V1x) and Cliff Kresge (Pro V1) were among three players who tied for third, three shots back. Five of the seven players who finished among the top six and ties trusted Titleist for their success.
Titleist was the most played golf ball at The Arnold Palmer Invitational with 76 players, more than four times the nearest competitor with 16. In addition to being the most played ball, Titleist was the most played iron set (T34), wedge (104) and putter (40). Titleist was second in drivers (25) and fairway woods (31).
Scotty Cameron putters have been the winners’ choice a PGA TOUR-leading four times this year. Cameron putters have also been in the bags of more than 500 players through the first 12 events this season, continuing its decade-long streak of more wins and more players than any other brand.
WORLDWIDE GOLF BALL WINS: With two more golf ball wins across the worldwide professional tours this week, Titleist’s 2008 victory total advanced to 28, more than four times the nearest competitor with 6.
