amateurgolf.com, the web’s only site devoted entirely to the amateur golf game, made its first foray into junior tournament sponsorship last weekend in North County San Diego.
The San Diego Junior Golf Association’s amateurgolf.com Championships were held March 15-16, with boys and girls ages 13-17 playing at Meadow Lake Golf Club in Escondido, and the 7-12 age groups competing at the Lomas Santa Fe Executive Golf Course.
In the boys championship flight, Marco Gomez, a junior at Rancho Buena Vista High School in Vista, fired an opening-round of 1-under-par 69, which gave him enough cushion to take the victory after a second round of 76.
San Diego’s Jamie Yam, 17, won the girls championship flight by posting a 78 and jumping to the top of a crowded leaderboard.

About the San Diego Junior Golf Association
Respected for pioneering junior golf programs since 1952, the San Diego County Junior Golf Association in 2002 celebrated 50 years of commitment to enriching the lives of youth through the game of golf. With this opportunity to reflect on our long-standing success in positively influencing thousands of young people who have participated in Junior Golf, the Association is forging forward for the next 50 years.
Junior Golf has helped influence the lives of thousands of San Diegans and many generations of families who credit their early, but lasting Association experience with later success as business and civic leaders, parents, and individual citizens. It is the principles they learned then that continue to influence their lives today.
