PowerBiltå¨ Clubs & Bionicå¨ Glove Help Woman Defy Odds
LOUISVILLE, KY – (March 24, 2008) Most golfers play an entire lifetime and never get a hole-in-one. That’s what makes Bonnie Archer’s recent feat so amazing. She scored two holes-in-one in a five day stretch, although she didn’t see the first one go in the cup thanks to her husband Mark and a couple of alligators.
Bonnie’s improbable week started on February 10 when she and Mark, both of New Albany, Indiana, were vacationing and playing Eagles Lakes in Naples, Florida. When they reached the Par 3 eighth hole Bonnie wasn’t quite sure of the distance. Paired with two gentlemen vacationing from Philadelphia, one used his range finder and gave Bonnie a read of 117 yards. She pulled out her trusty PowerBilt® 7 wood feeling confident she’d selected the right club.
Just as she struck the ball, Mark saw a couple of alligators retreating to some nearby water and told Bonnie to check them out. She did. Mark looked back at Bonnie’s ball in flight and thought it looked pretty good.
“The next thing I know, the ball is going in the cup,” Mark said, “and Bonnie didn’t see it because she was still watching the gators.”
“I didn’t believe it until we got on the green and I actually saw my ball in the cup,” Bonnie said. “It was exciting, but I was wishing I could have watched it go in the hole. Everyone saw it but me!”
As fate would have it, she would get another chance to see an ace. And just five days later! This time Mark and Bonnie were on the 93 yard 16th hole at Lely Mustang near Naples. Once again wearing her Bionic Glove, she pulled a new PowerBilt 5 hybrid from her bag.
“As I stepped up to the tee, Mark said, ‘Okay Ms. hole-in-one, let’s see what you’ve got.’
I said back to him, ‘You know, that only happens once in a lifetime.’ Well, I was wrong,” Bonnie said. “I stepped into the tee box and choked down on my PowerBilt 5 hybrid and put a pretty good stroke on it. It landed about 12 feet to the left of the hole. As Mark and I were watching it, the ball kept rolling closer and closer until it disappeared into the cup. We were both astonished! I was so shook up that I played pretty badly the next couple of holes.”
Since Bonnie was using Louisville-based Hillerich & Bradsby Co.’s PowerBilt clubs she will be receiving two framed certificates from the historic golf equipment maker, one for each ace. And Bionic, also made by H&B, is tossing in new gloves for Bonnie and Mark.
Bonnie says she could never play with any clubs other than PoweBilt nor wear any glove other than Bionic. “Mark’s brother Marty works for Hillerich & Bradsby’s Louisville Slugger division, so we’re PowerBilt and Bionic golfers all the way,” she said. “I have always played with PowerBilt clubs and I wouldn’t have anything else. And once you wear the Bionic Glove you won’t wear anything else. It is different from any other glove I’ve ever tried.”
