An Upcoming Nationwide Tour Event at The Course at Wente Vineyards

Livermore, CA- Sip wine from locally harvested grapes, watch Nationwide Tour players tee it up, and don’t forget to pick up your free ball mark repair tool. Members of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of Northern California (GCSANC) will distribute free ball mark repair tools at the Livermore Valley Wine Country Championship (LVWCC), a Nationwide Tour Event slated March 31 through April 6 at The Course at Wente Vineyards in Livermore, CA.

Thursday through Sunday of the event proper, GCSANC members will be stationed at the NCGA-Poppy Ridge GC booth, personally handing out tools and demonstrating how to properly repair a ball mark. Spectators will have a chance to ask questions and practice the technique in the presence of a golf course superintendent.

“Our association members enjoy spreading the word on the importance of proper ball mark repair,” stated GCSANC Vice President Chris Mains, “and the Nationwide event at Wente is an ideal venue to share this news with golf enthusiasts.” Mains added, “When golfers properly repair their ball marks they increase enjoyment for the game, especially for players that follow on the course.” According to Mains, each tool distributed is inserted into a small, instruction folder that features the correct steps to take when conducting ball mark repair.

The GCSANC’s ball mark repair initiative is supported by course superintendents throughout the region who continue to promote program awareness year round. Several course superintendents exhibit posters at their facilities that clearly display proper repair methods. According to GCSANC Association Manager Barbara Mikel, more than 20,000 repair tools have been distributed through community outreach efforts, and many in conjunction with Play Golf America’s growth of the game initiatives.

According to industry experts, a ball mark repaired within 10 minutes often heals into a smooth surface within a few days. If left unrepaired, it can take a few weeks to heal, and the result will be a less even surface. For more information about ball mark repair, contact your local golf course superintendent.
