FORT McDOWELL, Ariz. – We-Ko-Pa Golf Club’s Saguaro and Cholla courses were named the top two public-access golf courses in Arizona according to Golfweek magazine’s Best in 2008 March 8th issue. In addition, the Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw-designed Saguaro course was also named to Golfweek’s list of “Top 100 Modern Courses” (built between 1960 and the present) debuting at number 67 on the list.
Rounding out the top-5 public-access (daily fee and resort) courses in Arizona were Troon North-Monument (#3), Talking Stick-North (#4) and The Boulders Resort-North (#5).
Saguaro was one of eight Arizona courses to be listed on the “Top 100 Modern” compilation and the only public-access course in the state on the list. The other seven Arizona courses on the “Top 100 Modern” list were Desert Forest Golf Club (#26), Forest Highlands-Canyon (#49), The Rim Club (#50), Whisper Rock-Upper (#68), Quintero (#78), The Stone Canyon Club (#80) and Seven Canyons (#97).
“It’s truly an honor to have both the Saguaro and Cholla courses listed as the best two public courses in the Arizona by Golfweek,” said We-Ko-Pa’s General Manager Ed Francese. “We’re also thrilled to have Saguaro listed among the Top 100 Modern Courses, it’s a credit to Mr. Coore and Mr. Crenshaw’s hard work and vision.”
