April 7, 2008; Phoenix Arizona: PING pro Lorena Ochoa’s victory at the Kraft Nabisco Championship, her third win in four events this season and second straight major dating back to last year’s Women’s British Open, came with 14 PING® clubs in her bag, the company announced today.
Ochoa, who signed an endorsement agreement with PING in June of 2007, has won 8 of 13 events since her British Open victory at St. Andrews in July of last year. In all three of her wins this season, she played a PING Rapture® Driver, G10™ 3-wood, Rapture 5-wood and 21-degree Hybrid, S58® Irons, two Tour Wedges and a Redwood® ZB™ Putter.
At the Kraft Nabisco, her final round, bogey-free 67 was the lowest of the day and stretched a one-shot overnight lead into a five-shot victory worth $300,000. She’s now won 20 times on the LPGA Tour and is one victory away from entering the LPGA Tour and World Golf Halls of Fame.
The 26-year-old Ochoa received her first set of PING clubs when she was 13 years old and has played PING ever since, including in all of her LPGA victories. During a recent visit to PING, where she thanked the PING employees for their hard work and signed nearly 300 autographs, Ochoa talked about receiving that first set.
“It was amazing when I got my first set of PINGs,” said Ochoa, who grew up playing golf in Guadalajara, Mexico, where she still resides. “I went straight to the driving range with the biggest smile on my face. It was almost like my life had changed. I was so much better. I wanted to hit all the different shots and different shot shapes with the irons and the woods. I’ve been playing PING ever since.”
