ALEXANDRIA, VA – April, 2008- Club Managers Association of America is pleased to announce the appointment of Jason Koenigsfeld, Ph.D., as its new senior vice president of Professional Development.
Koenigsfeld, who has an extensive academic history in the hospitality and club management industries, earned a Ph.D. from Auburn University in 2007 for his studies in hotel and restaurant management.
Working closely with CMAA Academic Advisor and UNLV Associate Professor Joe Perdue, Koenigsfeld recently conducted a complete survey and study of CMAA’s Certification Competency Areas. The study was the basis of his Ph.D. dissertation and the results were analyzed for recommendations for updates to CMAA’s Certified Club Manager (CCM) program.
“I am delighted that Jason has been appointed as CMAA’s senior vice president of Professional Development,” said Jack Ninemeier, Ph.D., professor, Michigan State University. “I have observed Jason over the past five years as he has interacted with members at BMI sessions and at the World Conference on Club Management, and I am certain that he reflects CMAA in the most positive way. His insights based upon industry practices, his creativity and his academic preparation will serve as a role model for the association’s young managers and will continue to move the association forward in its educational mission.”
“I am very pleased to learn that Jason will serve as senior vice president of Professional Development for CMAA,” said Debby Cannon, Ph.D., director, School of Hospitality Administration, Georgia State University. “I have worked with Jason both in his role as a part-time instructor at Georgia State while he was in graduate school at Auburn University as well as serving on his Ph.D. committee. Jason is an outstanding teacher with the ability to relate to students and having an excellent knowledge of the club and hospitality industry,” she added. “His competency research provides a tremendous insight into the professional development needs of today’s club managers. His energy and enthusiasm will be a valuable asset to CMAA and its membership.”
Commenting on Koenigsfeld’s appointment, Joe Perdue said, “Jason brings an excellent combination of academic preparation, practical club experience and an understanding of CMAA’s professional development programs to the position of senior vice president of Professional Development. His club manager competency research provides the template for the future development of CMAA education programming. His professionalism, enthusiasm and ability to relate to the next generation of club managers will be invaluable to future of our association.”
CMAA Chief Executive Officer James B. Singerling, CCM, CEC, welcomed Koenigsfeld to the Association’s staff, as well. “As CMAA looks back on the commitment of our members and the enormous value our relationship with faculty members of the leading academic institutions has added to the hospitality industry, we also look enthusiastically to the future,” Singerling said. “While academics around the world continue preparing undergraduate students to lead our $160 billion industry through the next decade, the Club Managers Association of America will continue to partner with the very best of those academics to provide the best in professional development,” he added. “Jason Koenigsfeld, Ph.D. continues the long tradition of superior academics who have shared their talents with the industry as members of the CMAA National Office Staff.”
“I am truly excited as we begin this next chapter in the life of our professional association,” Singerling said. “We owe it to those who have come before us to continue the tradition of industry leadership that can only bring success to all who are involved.”
In his new role at CMAA, Koenigsfeld will reside in Alexandria, Virginia and work to further develop unique learning opportunities for CMAA members and to promote high standards of professionalism in private club management. He may be contacted at Jason.koenigsfeld@cmaa.org.
