April 14, 2008

2008 looks like "The Year of the Aussie" on the Nationwide Tour and for Nickent Golf. For the fourth time this season, after only six events, an Australian golfer has captured a Nationwide Tour victory. The latest win came at the Livermore Valley Wine Country Championship in Northern California.

The victory will officially go down as the 25th PGA TOUR event won with Nickent Golf clubs in play.

The playoff victory at Livermore was earned with a 17-degree 4DX Ironwood (Matrix shaft), and comes on the heels of Nickent’s special airing of What’s in the Bag? on The Golf Channel called "Nickent Down Under".

The show, which aired all last week, documented Nickent staff player and Australian native Ewan Porter winning the Nationwide Tour’s Moonah Classic in Victoria, Australia, an event that Nickent claimed the #1 driver model on the Nationwide Tour with 28 of their 4DX TSpec Drivers in play.

"It is a great thrill for us to celebrate our 25th PGA TOUR victory," said Nickent Director of Tour Operations Josh Trivett. "This is only the start of our 4th full year on tour. To win as much as we have has been truly remarkable."

"We have won twice this year so far, once with Ewan and now with Aron. Our time spent in Australia working with all of the Australian players is really paying off and will continue to do so into the distant future. We made a good documentary with the Golf Channel showing our strategy with Aussie players: Currently 4 of our 27 staff players are Australian and we have another 20 professionals playing our clubs in Australia. Our clubs are very popular over there."

It was the first Nationwide Tour victory for the 25-year-old native of Sydney. The 4DX user ranked 1st in Eagles, 6th in Birdies and 1st in Greens in Regulation. He finished as the runner up at the event last year.

"I thought it would be a year or a year and a half, but I quickly realized I had a lot to learn,” said the winner. "I always thought I had the ability, but until you break through there always is some doubt.”

His winner’s check of $108,000 moved him up to fourth on the Nationwide Tour money list, where the Top 25 players get promoted to the PGA TOUR at the end of the season.
